Introducing MPQueer, the queer network of the Max Planck Society

MPQueer aims to develop a supportive and progressive queer community in the MPS, and create inclusive and accepting environments for queer people throughout this institution. The network shares information on activities and opportunities related to queer identities throughout a mailing list, supports projects initiated by network members, and forms long-term collaborations with Human Resources across and within MPIs, to improve the working environments and conflict resolution channels for queer members of the society.

MPQueer was originally formed by Max Planck PhDnet of the MPG, but now extends its reach to all members of the MPG across all scientific and non-scientific roles.

MPQueer uses “queer” as an umbrella term for people who are not heterosexual and/or are not cisgender. This includes the identities indicated in the regularly used acronym LGBTI+, which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and also including a + (plus sign) in order to encompass many other identities that fall under the queer umbrella. The “+” includes, but is not limited to, anyone who is asexual, demisexual, non-binary, gender fluid, pansexual, polyamorous and questioning.
