Unconscious bias in academia

Increasing attention is being paid to how unconscious bias adversely affects diversity in organizations – including academic and research institutions. In this talk, I will introduce you to some core concepts about unconscious bias, as well as particular ways it can impact careers along gender lines in academia, especially in the STEM fields. Finally, drawing on my experience as an equal opportunity officer, I will discuss strategies to address the problem at the institutional and individual level.
